To design well, each house should reflect the owner, echoing their present and possible future needs. And, just as every person has many layers, one’s sanctuary reflects one’s outer and inner being and secrets. As one flows from the external façade inwards through the entertaining quarters and then on through more intimate areas, one can sense the transformation of personalities like peeling off layers of an onion’s skins.
At times, a different room will reveal a dramatic change to the inhabitant’s public and private personality; a designer will get to know their client inside and out. The design should create a mirror of one’s soul and provide a nurturing environment, to recharge, and to grow.
I love the feeling of space, good lighting, balance and a juxtaposition of drama mixed with a calm flow. The small details are a must and most important, every space needs a conversational piece for the element of surprise. One needs to be reminded to smile and not take life too seriously.
